About Integral Coaching

At the core of what I do is something called integral coaching. And integral coaching simply means connecting the mind, the body and the spirit. And so that's the only way we can be whole and that's what we want to do, because when we are hearts and our mind are aligned, then we can be happy in the way that we live our life.

What is integral Coaching?

There is always room to grow and develop as an individual, no matter where you are in your life. Whether you feel stuck in your career, in search for your authentic best self, or just wanting to continue to thrive and grow. A coach can help you in various ways to help unpack, unlock, find connections and offer practices that help us move forward.

Integral simply means mind, body and soul. Only when we connect with all these aspects will we truly be able to move ourselves forward.

The integral coaching methodology from New Ventures West has a 30 year history beginning with the designer of the first class and founder of the company, James Flaherty.

James had always been a student of human behaviour as he was driven by easing suffering that he saw in people. At the same time he studied several body work approaches including shiatsu and Rolfing which helped him understand various aspects of the body. In 1985, James created his first coaching class curriculum where he integrated his learning as body worker, seminar leader, and learnings as a student of philosophy and humanity. The course has since kept on developing and improving over the years as it has expanded in offer and in geography.

Integral coaching focuses on all three centres of mind, body and soul. Only when we connect all three can our way of being in the world be whole

People often refer to coaching as Life coaching, integral coaching is a link to this but is more specific to focusing on integrating the mind, body and soul. Only when we connect with all these aspects will we truly be able to move ourselves forward.

So Integral coaching can be described as a systematic and integrated way of accessing clients and then designing a unique program for the uniqueness of each person.

Integral coaching sees possibilities in a person’s life, then gives new insights and practices so they can embody that change and possibility holistically.

It is a way to be ‘seen’ as their true selves, of unlocking what is at their core so they can feel freer, they have more choices and their experiences can keep expanding in the world around them. There is then an offer of a new way of being in the world.

“Fulfilment is a deeply felt experience that what we are doing, how we are living, and who we are becoming is meaningful and worthwhile.”

How will  Integral Coaching help me?

At the end of the day, I think what integral coaching does for you is that it's a sense that you are calmer, you are more in control and you are happier. And ultimately, that is what it is. So there are many moving pieces, but at the end of the day, if you feel those, then you know that you've moved forward.

  • The aim with integral coaching is to develop competence and fulfilment which is enduring and touches deeply, to self correct so that the way we intend to show up is aligned with how people perceive us as showing up, and the ability to continuously regenerate by drawing on resources that are without and within.

This form of coaching focuses on development, exploration and experimentation very often leaving clients feeling freer and more courageous.

  • Someone may recommend that you get a coach but you need to be open to the idea. Only you will know if it’s right for you and only when you commit to it will you be able to make progress and see shifts. If you are feeling stuck, or feeling unmotivated or just feeling like you want to pivot and grow again, you may want to explore integral coaching.

Integral coaching dives into your current way of being and offers possibilities of a new way. This may appear in the form of career, family or personal situations.

What makes Integral Coaching® different by James Flaherty

How we are today is made up of different spokes in our life - how we were brought up, the relationships and experiences we had along the way.

How integral coaching works?

  • Working together to identify a challenge or aspect we want to develop, or a goal we would like to work towards.

  • Working together to unpack it, find connections, begin a creative exploration through practices that help us move forward.

  • Working on one area at a time, to continue to become more self aware, to work on ourselves, to grow, to thrive. To become our own unique power.
